Expansion
Voting for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections was completed in Madhepura on Tuesday in a peaceful atmosphere. Till 6 pm, 61 percent voters voted. Last year there was 60.62 percent voting. Voters did not face any problems as the weather remained pleasant throughout the day. The sky remained cloudy the whole day and the east wind kept blowing. Due to this, a large crowd of voters was seen at the polling stations in the morning. However, the pace of voting slowed down as the day progressed. But after 3 o’clock once again the crowd of voters started increasing at the polling stations. More enthusiasm was seen among voters in rural areas than in urban areas. Especially in the afternoon, more crowd of women was seen at the polling stations.
People boycotted voting at two places
There was talk of vote boycott at two places in the district in the morning, but later after persuasion by the officials, people got ready to vote. In Mainirhi of Madanpur Panchayat, people had boycotted the vote demanding a road. Due to this, there was silence at the polling station till 12 noon. People had also boycotted voting in Deenapatti Sakhua of Murliganj. At both the places, villagers voted after persuasion by senior officials.
Direct contest between RJD-JDU
Actually, 8 candidates are in the fray for Madhepura Lok Sabha seat. But the direct contest is between RJD’s Kumar Chandradeep and JDU’s Dineshchandra Yadav. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Dineshchandra Yadav defeated RJD’s senior leader Sharad Yadav by more than 3 lakh votes. However, this time there is a possibility of a close contest between the two. Here regional issues remained secondary in the elections. However, at some places there was talk of voting on youth employment.
